REMINDER: NO preschool from 8-11am on Friday. Instead we will be at the Walker Park (by the Ice and Fitness Arena) off Remembrance Road at 11am. Excited to see everyone there to celebrate our last day of preschool!
A lot of papers/forms/preschool work was sent home today. Make sure to check the folders so nothing gets ruined in their backpacks :)
I am going to be sending home extra name sheets and number sheets that we didn't use this year. You can keep these at home and your child can practice with these this summer.
Reminder: Bike & Bubble Day is in one week! Friday, May 22nd @ 10am.
If you ordered from the last book order but did not receive your books yet, please let me know. Some items were back ordered and are still on their way!
The Powers were kind enough to bring in their baby chicks to show the class! I posted a gallery in the photos tab, so make sure to check them out. The kiddos thought they were pretty cool :)
The deadline for ordering yearbooks has been extended- please contact the office if you would like to purchase one.

LAST BOOK ORDER was sent home today. Due back on April 27th.
There is a bag with the goodies from the egg hunt in your child's backpack- make sure to grab it so it doesn't get mushy over spring break. Have a great break & a HAPPY Easter, everyone! For those of you that are vacationing... bring some warm weather back with you, please!
Please bring in your child's READO on Monday. We are going to have an Easter Egg Hunt with candy and prizes for everyone doing such a great job with their READOs and bringing in iPhone's during reading month. Thanks so much to all of you parents- I know this was more work for you than it was for them. I really appreciate it!
Please thank you students- they did AWESOME at mass today! Although I already gave their monsters a "thumbs up" and told them how proud I was, it doesn't hurt to have mom and/or dad tell them too :). Have a great weekend!
Next week is another busy week for us at preschool:
Monday is another dress up day. There are a couple choices, your child can dress in their favorite sports team gear (Tigers, Lions, MSU, etc) or they can just wear a t-shirt with words on it to go along with what the school is doing that day.
Wednesday is our field trip to the Walker Library! Don't forget to turn in the permission slip and $3 if you haven't done this already.
Friday we are attending mass with the school.

March is READING Month! We planned tons of fun stuff for us to do during the month of March! Next week the following will be sent home (but cannot start until March 1st):
READO: This is meant to be played like Bingo. Read the squares to your child and try to do one square a day/night. Once your child gets a Bingo, put the READO page in your child's folder and we will give him/her a treat that day in school. We will send the page back home so you can continue to try and complete every square. You can continue bringing in the page every time a Bingo is earned, and make sure to bring it in when or if it is completed.
Purple Calendar: On your child's assigned day, please bring in his or her favorite book for me to read out loud to the class. If parents/family members would like to come in and be a guest reader on their child's day, please let me know ahead of time and we can arrange something.
Yellow Calendar: We have a different dress up day every week to help us get excited about reading. Please keep this calendar on your fridge, or somewhere that will be noticeable for you. It also has other important preschool dates on it.
Paper iPhones: Every time a book is read to your child you should help your child fill out a paper iPhone that says: "students name" read the book: "the book title". Try to limit this to one iPhone a day. We will be putting this out in the hall and it will fill up quickly.
I understand that this is a lot of information, so please let me know if there are questions once this information comes home. Thanks so much in advance for your participation.

March Field Trips:
March is a fun, BUSY month for us in preschool world... we already have the Children's Museum planned for March 13th (same day the book orders are due & these permission slips will be coming home soon) and we also planned a "reward" trip to the Walker Branch Library for March 25th. They will be listening to stories, singing, dancing, playing with bubbles and other fun activities. I told the students we will only be going if we have a successful month filled with LOTS of reading, so please try to encourage this as well.

ClassDojo: Tracking Your Child's Behavior
This is the new system I put in place to help reinforce positive behavior and to point out negative behaviors. I also wanted parents to see when their child is doing not only positive things, but negative things as well. We started this today and the students seem to really like it. This is a website where each child gets their own "Dojo" (animal) with their name next to it. Each time your child does something positive, I give him/her a thumbs up (which awards them 1 point). Each time something negative is done, a thumbs down is given (which takes away, or gives them -points). I will try to write notes so you can see what was done to deserve either the thumbs up or the thumbs down. Each parent will get a code that will give them access to their child's Dojo. Although I am going to try, some days I may not get a chance to use it often. Try to just keep an eye on your child's number... if their number goes up, try to make a positive comment about it to them. If their number goes down, ask them what happened today that they received a thumbs down. Thanks so much! This can be kind of confusing, so make sure to let me know if you want to see how it works or if there are any questions I can answer.

We already made & decorated bags for our party on Wednesday. The only thing needed is Valentine's for the class.
Our next all school mass will be Wednesday, February 18th @ 8:30am.
To those of you that still need to setup a conference: email me a day/time that works for you and I will make it work for me! I noticed I don't have many time slots left so I am happy to find another time to meet.
REMINDER: Pajama day is Friday! Don't forget to dress your child in his/her favorite PJs! Also, they are welcome to bring in one blanket, pillow or stuffed animal of their choice.
Summer Birthdays
To all of the parents that have children with summer birthday: I'm sorry I haven't mentioned something sooner, but you are welcome to bring in a treat with your child if and when they would like it to be celebrated with the class. Let me know a date that works best for you and I'd be happy to fit it into our day!

Mrs. Heitzman and Ms. Brand were kind enough to bid on our cross at the auction and... THEY WON! I am so happy to say that we have a new art piece in our classroom to enjoy! Thanks ladies for the classroom gift and to Lisa Barnum for her creativity when designing it.

Friday, December 12th, not only do we have a craft planned with our Super Friends, but we also have a guest speaker coming in to talk to us about how to keep germs away. Next week, we will have the opportunity to watch a bit of the Christmas program rehearsal and we also have our Christmas party on Friday.

Christmas Book Exchange:
We are going to do a book exchange during the Christmas party this year. Please bring in ONE book $5 OR LESS for the game. We will separate the boys and girls to play (just in case you wanted to bring a more gender specific book).
I am not going to be sending home another book order, but if you want to order from scholastic for this game you are more than welcome to go to their website and enter in our class code... you will still be able to order from any of those catalogs. Thanks so much!

Thanksgiving Celebration:
Today our 5th Grade Super Friends came in to help us with a Thanksgiving craft! We also were able to enjoy a yummy treat with them before they left. Make sure to check out the pictures and also check your child's backpack for the craft from today (and a few from last week). They were all excited to share with their families what they were thankful for. Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!

Special Visitor:
To help celebrate Veterans Day, Colonel Willsea came to our class today! He read a story, showed the kids his sword, uniform, pictures, what he eats on duty, and where in the world he travels to. The kids loved listening all about his adventures and sharing stories of their own with him. Thanks so much Colonel Willsea!!

Scholastic News:
There will be a Scholastic News going home with your child on Monday (11/10). This is going to be the last one before Christmas. I wanted to send it out early enough so that the books would be back before break. I promise I will not mess up the order this time ;).

Our November mass date is: Friday, November 14th
A big THANK YOU!
Thank you so much to EVERYONE: for bringing in the snacks/supplies, assisting with centers, and helping to make the day run smoothly. Also, a very special thank you to our room moms, Mrs. Barnum and Mrs. Wieber- everything went great and I appreciate all of the hard work and time you put into the party today.

Please read the following note us teachers received from the office:
"With the weather getting colder we are having a problem with families of younger children parking in the car rider line in the morning to walk their child into school. Please tell your parents that if they are walking their child in, then please park your car in the parking lot and walk to the cross walk to walk them in. Our concern is having back up's and blocking traffic on Richmond street. Thank you!"

Halloween Party is tomorrow at 10am: We will trick or treat around to other classrooms, eat snacks, and enjoy a few games/crafts. The kids can wear their costumes to school tomorrow too. Hope to see you all there!
Fire Station:
Another successful field trip! Besides one of the students getting sprayed by the hose, I'd say the morning went great ;). Thanks so much to Kendall's Mom and Grandpa for making it happen! Check out the adorable pictures in the photos tab.

Parent/Teacher Conferences:
Conferences are on November 13th and 18th from 5-8pm. You should be getting an email soon allowing you to sign up for a date and time. Preschoolers do not get report cards the first quarter, but I did go through a short assessment with them and will go over your child's results with you at your scheduled conference time.

Winter is quickly approaching... which means snow pants, boots, scarfs, etc.
To make this easier on everyone we are only going to be going outside on Monday mornings. We don't have to worry about this until the snow starts falling, but I thought I would give everyone a heads up on when to bring colder winter clothes (let's hope I didn't just jinx us).

At Home Help:
Our preschoolers are busy learning a lot this year- letters, numbers, shapes, colors, counting, name writing, etc.
Although I haven't been teaching preschool long, I've quickly picked up that they learn best through practice and repetition. I know everyone has very busy lives, but if you have a free 10-15 minutes on the days your child doesn't go to school, extra practice at home (working on the things listed above) would be great! Please let me know if you want me to make you number/letter flash cards, name practice sheets, give you app suggestions, or anything else. Thanks so much!

Technology... Finally!
We are finally using our Smart Board and Ipads! We use the Smart Board every morning for our prayer, calendar, weather, letter tracing/introducing, charts, name recognition, etc. and it is amazing! It allows the kids to sit for a longer period of time without becoming antsy, and everyone seems to really enjoy it. We used our Ipads for the first time today. The students used an app that allowed them to trace letters and listen to the sound each one makes. The kids were actually better at using them then me! Let me know if you want the names of these apps so your child can practice at home too.

Country Basket Field Trip:
Alice and I thought the field trip went great! Although it was a little chilly, the rain held off and we were able to do all of the planned activities. Thank you to all of the parents that helped make it run smoothly. All of the extra hands made everything much easier!
I went a little crazy taking pictures so make sure to check out the Photos tab again (there are some from week 5 in there too). Enjoy!

"C is for Cop!" = Success!
The students loved their visit from Trooper Surbrook!! He read them stories, showed them his car, talked to them about how important helping others is, and he even handed out some goodies for everyone to take home. He was able to stay a little longer than expected and enjoy snack with the class too. Trooper Surbrook promised to come back and visit the kiddos (and his wife :) ) again soon!

Week 2:
We had another great week at preschool! We learned all about the letter A- how it is written, what sound it makes, and what things start with it. We formed As out of play dough and learned how to make small holes to complete the letter. The students made angels using their hands, and we started our Alphabet Books that you will get to take home at the end of the year! We also read about Saint Anne and how she was very kind and loved children.
I was able to take a few pictures at gym this week- make sure to check out the photos page again!

She has subbed at St. Anthony's plenty of times and loves being in the preschool classroom. Alice will be here that day to help as normal. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Country Basket Field Trip
Our first field trip is going to be Monday, October 6th. The cost is $5.00 per student and per adult (for chaperons). The program lasts an hour and a half, but parents are welcome to stay longer with their child to see more of the animals and activities. While we are there, a snack of apple cider and homemade doughnuts are provided. We will also be able to go to the pumpkin patch and pick out a small pumpkin. The students will learn about the life cycle of the apple, visit the animals, and have time to play on the playground activities. Please let me know if you would like to attend this field trip with us– all our welcome.

First Day Jitters
We thought our first day of school went great! The students warmed up to Mrs. Heitzman, each other, and myself very quickly. We spent the morning exploring our room, learning the classroom rules, and getting to know the morning routine. At snack we were lucky enough to enjoy a birthday treat from Roman. We were even able to squeeze in some time to enjoy the beautiful weather. We rapped up the day by getting to know the Spanish teacher and how to say each of our names in Spanish. Today went even better than expected- I cannot wait to enjoy the rest of the year with all of your amazing kiddos!
